Okra

Anyone had any sucess growing Okra in the UK?

Im in the south, half a mile from the coast, so the climate is good (well normally).

So I was wondering if this could be acheived without a greenhouse?

And on an exposed lotty?

Any advice or previous experience would be greatly appreciated.

If it comes out easy, it was a valuable plant !

So far I have had little success with okra. I have tried direct sowing inthe ground of my mini tunnel, and sowing in modules, but have struggled to get more than one fruit per plan , and sometimes not even that

One of my plot neighbours has also said he will not bother again after four years of trying to get a decent crop.

I hope someone else posts who has more success, as I would like to know what I have done wrong in the past

Fair engouh, and if you're in Reading, then the climate wont be much different.

Any idea what variety you have tried?

The one I had was Cajun Delight I think. It was supposed to grow very tall but only managed a measly 50cm maximum ever.

I'm giving them a rest this year, but will no doubt get sucked in again, as I realy do like okra a lot
