Cooked Apple
« on: October 04, 2015, 11:59 »
I have a large number of cooking apples which are slightly damaged and will not store.  I was wondering can I cook them off and freeze them?  If I am freezing them do I add the sugar now or when I am using them?

I would peel core and cook in the microwave without sugar.

Easier to add sugar later when the apple is thawed and you know what it is going to be used for.

Always keep a bag of crumble mix in the freezer too for an quick and easy desert with whatever fruit is available.

The crumble in the freezer is an excellent idea, thanks for that.

our apples dont keep, we just peel and core them, then vacuum bag them and freeze, then we can just throw them in a pie, crumble, or heat up and make apple sauce when needed. I use a lakeland peeler/corer/slicer machine to make prep easier.
we do the impossible daily, miracles take a little longer.

That's what I do too!  Brian doesn't like cooked apple, so I don't add any sugar, then if it's just crumble for me, I just add a little sweetener, or tiny bit of sugar.  If we have visitors, I add a little more sugar sometimes.

But I too always have crumble mix in the freezer, and that doesn't stick together either.  Don't bother thawing, just spread as much as I want over the fruit, bake and hey presto, quick healthy delicious dessert!  ;)
