[Jellyhead]

I got my first rescue chooks today, nearly all cats, dogs and guinea pigs have been rescue but not the chooks. Anyway, nasty nasty lady down the road had 4 brown chooks. Lily went to see her puppies and noticed four, bare bummed chooks in a really small dirty nasty run. Lady then said she was going to kill the chooks and feed them to her cats cos they weren't laying eggs any more :twisted: No b*****y surprise there then. Anyway, Lily said "my mum will have them" :roll: So here we are four hens Daffodil, Tulip, Hyacinth and Bluebell (we felt they deserved pretty names). They are 6 months old-ish apparently and when I transfered them all I could feel was stubbly tummies. I will start by putting anti louse powder on them and giving them proper food. Anything else I should do to give them a healthy kick start :?:

Good on yer Jellyhead.    

Make sure they're well dusted for red mite, give good healthy chicken food, clean dry housing and space to run around in.  

Treat your others at same time.  

Also if their conditions have been that bad they probably havent been wormed.

Maybe a few mealworm treats woudn't go amiss

How can people do that kind of thing to chooks  :evil:

I suspect they are older that 6 months.  They would only just be starting to lay by then. they are probably more like 18 months to 2 years old I'd guess.

Lots of lovely food and clean water and plenty of space to do chicken things rather than peck each other.  They'll soon be fine with your care
