Where is a chicken's abdomen?
« on: July 02, 2012, 21:18 »
Enormous squishy abdomen is how Casey76  descibed her chicken who was internal laying.

My chicken stopped laying a few months ago.  She goes back in the coop in the morning, and I was wondering if this is a sign she is internal laying.

The last day or two, i have thought the area under her vent is very round and full.  Is this back end area under her vent, the bit Casey76 describes as her abdomen?

If so, do I need to take her to the vet?  She appears happy and eating, but does sit down now and again and rest.

Yes, it's the area from under the vent, between the legs and uptowards the keel (or breast) bone.

If it has appeared suddenly I would take her to the vet to make sure it is not something else, but an enlarged squicsy abdomen is pretty indicative of internal laying, sorry :(
