POULTRY WORMS ON THE INCREASE..!
« on: February 01, 2010, 23:13 »
I wonder, do any of you out there notice an increase in the difficulty in getting hold of adequate supplies of flubenvet poultry wormer? If you have, it’s due to new government legislation regarding the sale of flubenvet in larger amounts than 60g tubs. You now need a mixing licence to purchase the 240g tubs and i had a nightmare trying to get hold of enough to worm my stock this time. I fear this will only increase the amount of birds not getting adequately treated each year and thus increase the spread of poultry worms even more..! Like to hear your views on this. Stu.

And yes, we know about Flubenvet, but poultry worms aren't inevitable.  I don't think I've ever seen one!

Sadly it's all part of the trend for professional trade bodies to lobby government for tighter and tighter regulations governing the amateur use oof any effective medication or pesticide.  Pretty soon you won't be able to get any medication unless you employ a professional at vast expense.

In the 60's trade unions used to employ restrictive practises to protect trades and jobs but nowadays it's done by trade associations in partnership with government who do it through restictive legislation.  There's no political colateral in upholding the principle of freedom for the individual.

I was merely asking if anyone else had been having difficulty in obtaining the 240g tubs of flubenvet..!
I have received a very mixed response from most suppliers and most aren't bothering to stock the 240g because of the confusion over the new legislation.

I'm sure you're right about the 240gm 2.5% tub although hobbyists are now exempt suppliers still need to be approved so i suspect that many of the former outlets will just now stock the 1% 60gm tub which is approx 5 times more expensive.  Fortunately I had just stocked up before the new regulations came in so I've not needed to buy under the new rules.
