I don't have much space and want to grow peas. I have seen pictures of peas grown in containers, but I'm not sure how to support them.

Can anyone help me please. How can I support peas to grow in tubs?

I grow all my early pea crop in containers and support them with twigs pushed down into the compost. It works OK for short varieties like Meteor and Feltham First but taller ones might be a problem if you live in a windy area.

I have grown peas in black 3 gallon? builder's buckets, using 3 canes in a tripod to grow 5 foot high plants. Obviously you need to drill some holes in the bottom of the bucket.  They are put in a sheltered spot, but still blow over occasionally.

I plant 2  pea plants per cane, and you need to tie them to the canes as they grow.

I only do this to grow a few plants in my garden so they are nowhere near any other pea plants to collect the seed without the risk of cross pollination.

Thank you, I have 50litre buckets. Do I need to put string round the canes as well, to help them cling onto something?

I couldn't make them cling by themselves.  I had to tie them to the canes once a week.  If you find out how, please let me know !
