I have tried growing potatos in tubs and last year I got some good ones. This year I have done the same but my second tub has given me a crop of salad potato size but with a slight green tint to the skins. Are they edible and why does this happen?

Did you earth them up well enough?

A green tint indicates light getting to them.

If they are green skinned from exposure to light they are poisonous and you cannot eat them.

I grew some Rooster spuds in Iceland insulated freezer bags. They gave a reasonable crop and cheap too as the Roosters were from Sainsburys and left over from the Sunday roast.

I earthed them up as the shoots broke through. I started a third up from the base of the pot until the earth was level with the top and then let the foliage grow on until it died off. They are plastic pots 18 inches deep. Would light be able to penetrate the plastic?
