My first season with an allotment, I have grown some radishes and they are beauties ....but they go soft after a few hours, supermarket ones stay fresh for days...any ideas why?

Keep the faith

Supie ones get sprayed. 8)

Some store better than others though, try in a sandwich bag in a chill box, but really you want to eat them fresh, that's the point.

I have often wondered this myself.  Gobs are you joking or do they really spray them.

If I have to keep mine in fridge.......i.e. OH decides he wants something other than salad.........I keep them in a lock or clip shut box.  You can get cheap ones from 'the store we don't mention' or even Matalan.  Sometimes I cut leaves off first, sometimes I don't no difference.

Of course they do. Quite often veg get more 'contaminated' in storage than in growth.

Not joking at all.

I keep mine in a bowl/container with a little water in the bottom, they seem to last a good few days with the roots just touching the water,i do the same with Lettuce leaves as well, just wash the roots but dont chop them off.
Whilst on the subject of Raddishes i planted some Whites this year and thought they were lovely

As regulars will know I use the good old cat litter trays for growing my radish in. (One seed per station at 1" spacing).

I have no problems in keeping them fresh, as they are grown at home and whipped out of the compost 5 mins before they hit the plate.
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?
