Plant ID please...
« on: May 02, 2015, 19:58 »
A few years ago I spotted a deal on a couple of shrubs on mail order. As I recall these were a Japenese shrub but I'm not 100% sure on that. The flowers look like a saucepan sized rose to me... Any ideas?

Looks like a tree peony but it seems a bit early

Initially I also thought it was, but I have a yellow single-flowered one and the leaves are more divided - almost fern-like. Just giggled images and their leaves look like mine as well yet the flowers look right. Can you take a pic of the leaves please?
I work very hard so don't expect me to think as well.

If you Google images some varieties do seem to have more divided leaves than others.

There is indeed lots of variety in the leaf form, and we have several different ones in our garden, including some with bronzy coloured leaves still when mature, as well.

I must have got the same deal.  Got mine from T&M in 2011.(The white bits are just the sun on the petals.) I found a photo but I haven't written down what it was called.  Something japanese, as you said, is all I can remember.

Don't think so as I only bought 2.  One was supposed to be a different one than that in the pic (I thought) but they are both the same.  Mine are just buds at the moment, Baldy's is well ahead of mine.

Just nipped out and dodged the raindrops to take a pic of mine. Ignore the blackened leaf tips - that's been the recent winds we've just had. There are a couple of buds showing in the centre, but see what I mean about the leaves being more fern-like. Mine was given to me so I don't know its type. It has single yellow flowers and can grow very big and seeds around a bit. I guess they must vary with the species.
