Plant ID and diagnosis
« on: May 03, 2015, 16:11 »
Hi anyone

I'm hoping someone maybe able to help, we live on a new build estate and in my next door neighbours garden he has several of the shrubs in the photos. In the past few days we have noticed the tips of the leaves are going black.
I was wondering if anybody knew A: What the plants are? B: Whats caused the tips to go black? and C: Should we cut them back and/or dig them out?

Thanks in advance

Gareth

The shrub is Griselinia and it looks like a frost has caught the new growth to me.  I'd snip the blackened bits off.  The rest of the plant will be fine  :)

I did wonder if it was frost damage, we had a couple of days frost last week. Thanks for your help New Shoot.

I think NS has got it. I wasn't at all sure what it was at first but I agree.
I work very hard so don't expect me to think as well.

It's definitely Grisellinia.

However, I have my my doubts about frost damage.

Most of ours, that was in a hedge, was killed in the severe winter a few years back.
But I don't recall it ever looking like that.

Has it been sprayed with anything recently, such as a strong foliar feed?

Don't laugh, but it's not sun scorch is it? Just wondering if the young leaves were wet after some rain then they had sun on them, otherwise I would go for frost-damage.
