seasonal vegetable allotment sought for ITV series
« on: August 27, 2008, 10:52 »
I am currently researching a series for ITV about the seasons, looking at how they impact the people, landscape, jobs and produce of the UK. We want to incorporate seasonality in the city as much as possible, illustrating the diversity of seasonal vegetables and herbs grown in allotments in the UK (from yams to leeks to pumpkins to chilli’s) by following a person's mini harvests over the course of a year. If you are/you know someone growing an interesting range of seasonal vegetables please get in touch - Any ideas would be so gratefully received,

Best Wishes,

Olivia

There are loads of people like that on our site - a lot of Turkish and Italian people, as well as Brits. We're having an open day this sunday (31st). PM me if you want the details, none of the plotholders are very internet savvy but might be interested if you talk to them face-to-face.
Our site is in Walthamstow.
Self-sufficient in rasberries and bindweed. Slug pellets can be handy.

Hi, Thankyou for getting back to me so quickly! I thought it might be the case that some of the best 'characters' for us would not be internet regulars. It would be great to show some turkish or italian vegetables being grown - can you let me know alittle more about what type of vegetables they grow? (we want to show a cultural diversity in produce grown - so things like yams, chilli's being grown would be ideal)? I am very interested by the show on sunday - how often do you have them? Is the show on sunday abit like a 'harvest' festival where everyone shows thier summer produce?
Do you know of a particular allotment character who might be good for TV (confident/sense of humour sort of thing)?
Thankyou again for your help,
Olivia

Do you already know what you want and are looking for 'characters' to fit the bill or are you looking to find out how working with nature moulds people and their growing 'habits'?

Or have I misunderstood completely?
My music teacher was right. If you have to make a mistake, make it good and big and loud; with a bit of luck people will think that it was always meant to be like that.

Yams, yams, you must like them Olivia.

PSS! It's a bit of a tropical plant.

A lot of folks grow parsnips though in England.

Oh, do you mean sweet potatoes, by any chance?

That grows, not famously, but does.

so not looking for english people doing stuff we all do on allotments but you want something unusual that is non british   therefore emphasising something that is not the norm just for the sake of TV

now there is something different.............. yawn

I know... How about that ' Swifty' fella. He's a bit of a character ("confident/sense of humour") and I know that he grows a lot of Diverse seasonal produce down in London

Some varieties are like the Hardy Yam - Dioscorea batatas, but I wouldn't want the job of digging it up
