« on: May 08, 2010, 09:30 »
I know I'm at an age where confusion reigns in my poor little bonce but when is the best time to sow maincrop carrots?
He's my best buddy, my dog called Woody.
If it works, organic. If it don't, well.........??

Today  :D

Mind you, you live in Hull, so is everything weeks later up there?

Yes I reckon so as it is so cold today, it's unbelievable for May. Anyway I'll get the bed dug over and get them in asp. Cheers for your help. ;)

I have my first lot just nicely germinated, early varieties. I've just sown a few more for a second crop, some earlies some main. Final sowing will be first week in June of James Scarlet and Autumn King to stand the Winter.

I still haven't sown my maincrop carrots as we are having pretty bad frosts overnight here. I think I'll wait another week and so then, what do you think?

There is a theory that later sown carrots miss most of the ravages of carrot fly as the insects have a definite period of most activity. I have earlies doing well in deep containers but will leave the maincrop sowing till next month. I've even sown as late as July and got a useable crop.
