My ex-MIL used to make a delicious meal of onions in a creamy white sauce with bread and butter. I wonder what shallots would be like done the same way?

Great tasting veg when prepared like this..

Hi Benny - yours look great...

Sorry to hijack the thread but I have a question for Sunny..

I have dug and dried my Potato Onions which I have grown from only 6 little sets I was given. Really pleased with them considering I started them off in pots in Feb and planted them into their nursery bed at the plot at the end of April as the plot was not ready for them!! I hope next year they will be a bit bigger tho..

My question for Sunny is that do I also keep the smaller bulbs for next years planting like shallots? Some are small like onion sets as you can see in the pic..

Hi New Shoot - hope you see this thread.. .. these are from the 6 you sent me!!  ;)

Do you have them in a poly or out in an open bed..

Open bed, although they were cossetted in the greenhouse until fairly late and put out as big plants.  I'm off to the plot in a bit so will get pics  ;)  :)

Just harvested mine today - a mix of Longuer, Red Sun and Golden Gourmet. Really pleased with them, average of eight good sized shallots from each set, despite being decimated by snails over the last six weeks. One of the biggest success stories of my first year. I might just grow loads of them next year and forget about onions - shallots are such a rip off in the shops.
