Our 3 buff rock bantams have just started to lay in the last week.
I have grit and oystershell down (looks like cockleshell to me, but the sack said oystershell), however i have kept our egg shells and cooked them then ground them up as well, too make sure they eat them, we have been cutting grapes up, coating them in the ground up egg shell, then going into the run and standing back as they devour them with relish, but is this too much calcium for them?.

ps, the grapes are for being such good girls and providing lovely eggs

i'm not sure that they can have too much calcium - they might keep it in reserve, or poo it out (like we do - we absorb what we can then poo out what's not needed)

keep checking your eggs though, because sometimes you can get calcium deposits on the shells (little raised lumps): then too much calcium is getting onthe egg.

but i'm pretty sure that they'd poo it out.

I think they can overdose on calcium but I'm not sure what effects it may have. I seem to remember it can do nasty things to their kidneys but I may be wrong.

I suspect you'll be ok with the oyster shell and eggshells though.
