cavolo nero - gone to seed?
« on: January 31, 2009, 19:00 »
I've not grown cavolo nero before. It has been great though. Just wondering...

There are loads of tiny leaves growing off the tops and the sides. I'm not sure if these are just how the young leaves grow back after several pickings? Or has it seen better days? (looks like some leafy things do when they go to seed you see)

If not gone to seed then how long approx til it does?

Thanks

I think it's probably new leaf growth from how you describe it.

If it is flower heads forming (a bit early imo), they are edible also. Cook like brocoli ;)

It is lovely and it was so easy to grow. OH sowed a whole pack of 1200 seeds (oops) so we had loads to give away.

On closer inspection there are flower heads appearing in the middle of all the little leaves.
