Hi All.  I switched channel this morning to see a bit of Gardeners World as Monty was planting up a seed tray with autumn/winter lettuce. Unfortunately I missed the varieties he was using. Any recommendations?

On the programme he sowed Rocket, lettuce Marvel of 4 Seasons and Corn Salad.

Mrs Growster and I have been having serious discussions today about planning for the 'winter months'.

We're considering endive as a starter (not the first dish of the day, just a veg which may well be available in the early spring)!

We like spinach (raw) in a salad, and perhaps endive might fill a gap where everything is pretty dire!

Other than that, pickled beetroot is a great substitute for Branston Pickle..;0)

And much cheaper!

Mrs Groaster is not a fan, so I chop it up and we move rooms...

(We always get back afterwards, thank goodness)!
