Am I correct in thinking you sow the parsnip seedling into straight vermiculite?

Cheers,   Tony.
I may be growing OLD, but I refuse to grow UP !

Last year was the only year I'd ever failed with parsnips.  They just didn't germinate no matter what I tried. Tomorrow I'm off to the lotty and one of the things I plan to do - if it's not too windy - is to sow the parsnips. I just take out a drill, soak it with water, station sow the seeds, cover and leave them to get on with it. Hopefully this year will be more successful than last.

HI Tony
No mate. I dib a small hole and fill with sand ( we have very sandy soil) to about 8mm ish, pop the seed in and then top up with vercumulite.

I'm sure I read somewhere on here to dib a deep hole and fill it with compost then put a few seeds in, anyway I did this the first week in April then put a few radish in-between covered the lot with a enviromesh cloche and I can actually see a few peeping up  :D
I failed miserably last year although they were usually no trouble. soil persist in being clay despite every thing except total replacement of soil being added to it.

My parsnips on damp paper are starting to sprout rootlets :D.  What do I do now, into pots with J.I. N2 and vermiculite?

Cheers,  Tony.
