Closed eye
« on: February 24, 2016, 18:27 »
I have a chicken which is very lethargic. Went to the vets and she is currently on antibiotics but is not perking up as expected. She has now started to close one eye and is continually scratching it.
There is no stickiness round the eye and when she was at the vets he checked her eyes and there was no issue so this problem has occurred in the last few days. I am wondering whether she has scratched it and damaged it or got dust in it.
Looking at previous posts bathing in warm water seems to help. Any other thoughts? Might have to go back to the vets otherwise.
Thanks

do you use straw/ sawdust/ fine floor covering. Where do you buy your floor covering from?
Is any chicken wire poking outwards?
Listen to the breathing, check eyes on all your hens.

You could try bathing in a mild solution of salt water but prob should go back to vets. Does the vet know anything about chickens? Most of them don't?  :)
Experience is what you get when you didn't get what you wanted!!
