Sweet cherry tree
« on: May 10, 2017, 17:45 »
Three years since I planted it. Gave a decent crop last year but this year, after blossoming, the leaves have just curled up and look to be dying. Any thoughts as to cause and future remedial treatment/prognosis?
It's certainly not parched as it's on heavy clayey soil

It probably just got caught by one of the late, hard frosts. I'd just leave it alone to recover.

Strange that the apple, pear and plum trees next to it weren't affected as they all seemed to blossom  and come into leaf at the same time

Or it might e just that, leaf-curl.

Sounds like it could be aphids, cherries are prone to black aphids on new growth. Check the undersides of the curled leaves for bugs.

Just checked, nothing there. The leaves are still green, but all curled up as if they're on their last legs. To be honest, when I first saw it, I assumed some kind of pest or parasite as I used to get similar on an ornamental cherry tree we had until I took it down about five years ago. I'll just leave it for now in case it recovers
