Has it got a diseases or infestation of anything? If not can't see why you would spray.

Or as Joni Mitchell sang:

"I don't care about spots on my apples,
Leave me the birds and the bees"
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

cox is a sickly apple i would at least start a fungicide program on it as  (like the bramley) its nearly guaranteed to get scab.

As RW says Cox is not a "good" apple by present standards. I think I read that it requires more chemicals to produce a crop then anything else and that if it were a new variety today it would be grubbed out as it is susceptable to many problems. It simply would not meet the standards.

What to do is therefore slightly difficult, perhaps look at the more natural options as I assume that you do not want to start a regime of spraying at regular intervals with the normal chemical offerings. But a Cox is a bit more difficult then is realised.

other options are to graft it over to another variety, kidds orange red is a similar apple but easier to grow.
check out stephen hayes on youtube, once you have waded thru his 500 and odd videos you will start to get an idea of fruit growing :)

in the short term tho if it was me i would keep it, monitor it and see what happens and how it grows.

Cox is my favourite apple for flavour. I have a small one which I bought last year. I don't spray. It has a few flowers on this year so I am waiting to see how it does.

Thanks m1ckz

It does have one diseased branch on it, but I am going to snip that off. It is only a small tree because of its youth so a pair of secateurs will do the job.
