Has anyone ever had any problems with dogs going after their hens?  I am thinking I would like to have a dog out with the hens in the garden to possibly ward off any hungry foxes.

It depends on the individual dog really and I don't think it goes true to breed so I think I'd rather know my dog before the chickens are introduced. Some will behave impeccably, some will be naughty and chase a bit from time to time out of devilment and some will cause damage. I've had experience of the first and second types I list there.

yes very true its the individule dog we have a staffie and all she does is lick the chucks  the chucks dont seem to keen but they arnt wurried about her

I have 3 dogs, a mastiff who is great, a newfoundland x who too is great and a staffie  x pup who is being trained to be chicken friendly. I did used to have a collie though who would eat them given the chance. So yes get to know your dog very well first.
