What kind of container are they in?
Cheese makes everything better.

When I took the outer wrapper off, they are in a plastic basin/tub with a film lid.

Take off the wrapper but not the lid and place them in a saucepan.  Fill with water to half way up the container and simmer with a lid on.  Check water levels occasionally.

It says that (almost word for word) on the packaging, but it also says that i have to place the pudding on a 'trivet/saucer' ?

I that is one of them pan stand type of things, but I do not have one.

It says that the puddings should not be on direct heat... does it matter if they are just sat on the bottom of the saucepan?

I am asking cause my friend is here for a few days, and we just had a Christmas Dinner (treat for him) so I would like to go make him a pudding :D

Just put an upside down saucer in the saucepan and boil away.  It's probably not necessary but best to do it.

Ps, make sure you get rid of the trapped air under the saucer.
