Help with a bully!
« on: March 15, 2008, 10:57 »
Chooky has turned into a bully    She's certainly top of the pecking order... but i'm not talking about that... she's started to bully ME!

When i go into the run she sort of squares up to me.. stands up really tall and makes her neck really long - it's hard to explain  :?

Then if i try and shoo her into the coop for any reason she'll do the same and try to peck me. She has no qualms about pecking my little boy (2 years old) and squaring up to him, which is making him scared...

What can i do? Is there anything i can do to show her that I'M top of the food chain, so to speak?!  (without doing the obvious! lol     )

Help!  I think she's gonna get meeeeeee
Trying to live the good life.. getting there slooooowly...

well this will sound harsh put some thick gloves on and do this

grab her lay her on her back and hold her there for say 30/40 seconds

then let her up and repeat until she stops attacking you

this in her eyes will put you at the top of the pecking order

I did read somewhere that grabbing an agressive bird and dunking in a bucket of water is a sure fired way to prove that you are the boss, aparently it is a really good way to get the upper "wing" so to speak. But then again they could have beenreferring to a cockerel.  Dont know if it would stop her pecking your son though if you tried it.

Maybe better to stick her in the oven and have her for lunch!

im sorry but its the only way its not as harsh as it sounds

all you are doing is what would happen in the wild you have to put your self at the top of the pecking order

the only other way is get rid of the chook
