Newbie still after options
« on: April 17, 2009, 20:22 »
Has anyone any feedback on these houses?

Would love some feed back guys and girls

I'm also keen on opinions on eggs. I love the creamy taste of Burford Browns and they make THE BEST yorkshire puds. Any recommendations on great tasting eggs/breeds?

Hi BigMark

I can tell you quite quickly that most of the members on here HATE the hen coops on e-bay

u may find it cheaper an better to build your own then u can have any design u want , but if u cant do that then look out for a second hand shed as long as it dry an warm the chocks wont mind where they sleep .

Thnks Aunt Sally. I'm a bit at a loss on things at the moment as there seems to be a MASSIVE array of houses out there from £80 to well LOADS of money......
I dont know what the key features should be s any and all help would be great. I have a local supplier that I am thinking of going to have a chat with http://www.happychicks.co.uk/

I'm afraid you get what you pay for, and at those cheap prices, I personally wouldn't touch them with a barge pole.  I'd rather pay more, see what I'm buying, and not have a badly made, partly broken chicken house arrive.  They even warn you that there could be damage during transport.  Try sending it back!!!! Shipping is exhorbitant and it's a lot of hassle, and the sellers aren't very "sympathique"!!!!

I love my Black Rock hens eggs, yummy.

we found these at Wyevale garden centre for £120. Good value, hubby has adapted it , has put a strong bolt on, will have a pop hole soon, an old kitchen cupboard used as nestboxes,2 extra coats of woodstain on it and almost ready for our young birds. The roof is slightly different, it looks fab though.  :) We also converted Band Q lads sheds a few years ago and they are still going strong.
I really dont advise cheap, chinese ebay henhouses, they are flimsy and doubt they would last a winter without warping or leaking. I have got one though, an arc only to use in the summer and in an electrified run for broody hens, it is quite flimsy though and I have already broken the door!!!

and this is one of our converted sheds used for runner ducks

they've got some really cool wendy houses!

The blue one with the sandpit underneath is a ready-made house and run - just move the ladder to the inside and wrap it in weldmesh!
