Daisy seems to be broody, which I know has been discussed to death on here before (mostly by me, when Dora went broody  ).

When Dora was broody I kept her shut out of their little house in the daytime; but that was in the summertime -- the weather's so cold now it feels cruel to keep them shut out.

Am I prolonging the broodiness by allowing her inside or does it not make a difference?

Any advice is welcome :D

 She's as grumpy as anything at the moment - walking about complaining to anyone who would listen (her audience is one of the cats)

Hello RCG,

I have 2 broodies at the moment and, like yours, one is really grumpy! She's been broody for a few weeks now and so I turf her out a few times each day when it's fine. She's usually a sweetie and, to be honest, some of these wet, windy days I too would rather be indoors so I'm not too hard on her! Trouble is these two broody ones hog the nest boxes so the others have to squeeze in beside them to lay and so, of course, the broodies then carry on sitting because they have some eggs to sit on!!

Usually, I shut the broodies out for a good few hours each day but it's hard for the others who want to lay so I do it after the laying is completed for the day! Having silkies, I always have at least 2 broody, sometimes 5-6!

Give her a cuddle...after all it's only her hormones and we all know how they can make us "girls" feel sometimes!!

Thanks Judi,

I've just shut her out for a little while (inbetween showers) this afternoon; I'm so soft hearted - like you - that I couldn't bear the thought of her being stuck outside in the cold for too long (they've got me twisted round their little claw-y toes )

I've given them some raisins and some of the cats' food as a treat, I know what it's like to be so hormonal too  (though the cats weren't too happy to see their food going to the hens  )

Thanks for the advice :D

Oh bless Daisy, she laid me an egg today even though she's all hormonal (I made sure to take it away straight away, which she wasn't too happy about)

I gave them a courgette and pepper as a ''thank you'' pressie :D

I wouldn't know what to do with the boy chicks, though I did think about it when Dora was broody last year.

Peter and I are both veggies, Babe, and I wouldn't like to think that any chicks I'd hatch (or rather Daisy would hatch) would end up dead on someone's plate
