russian comfrey invasion

Hi

Can anyone suggest a method of removing russian comfrey from my plot?

When I took the plot a year ago it was completely covered in bramble but with several clumps of comfrey, however since we cleared the brambles the plant has gone mad. Regular weeding including root removal is just not slowing it down and i face a winter of discontent!   I have tried to be organic but quite frankly I'm desperate so will try anything.

Ironically I hear its a great fertiliser!

Any suggestions or advice welcomed
Thanks :D
Many Thanks
Karen

Amicide - expensive but effective. Mind you, a little late for this year since it takes time to absorb down to the roots.

Trying to dig up comfrey is the second best way to SPREAD it; rotovating is first.  The roots are very brittle and every little piece you leave in will regrow.  The best way to do it organically is with black polythene.  You needn't cover the whole plot but can simply cover each plant (unless they are too numerous).

Easiest of all is to grow potatoes in polythene sacks on top of the comfrey.

Or you could just keep cutting down the leaves and useng it on the compost heap,to line potatoe trenches, making vile smelling plant feed.Seriuosly,if you do keep on cutting any leaves as they appear and dig the roots out deeply they will eventually give up.
