Onion planting
« on: January 25, 2013, 16:51 »
I planted my onion sets late December  160 of them, I followed the instructions poking them into the ground about half way, thing is we have had minus four temperatures and snow, will they all perish?

No, as long they don't sit in water, you might lose a couple, but they should be OK.  I don't fully plant mine either - I don't know why - I must have been shown the technique years ago but have no idea where!

I assume that they were overwintering or "Japanese" cultivars, if so you should be OK as these are "designed" to take more cold.

If they were ones that you'd normally spring plant, you may have problems.
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

Mine stood through the winter of two years back, so you should be OK.
