i was wondering about planting some leylandii trees in my run as i thought they might help drink up some of the rain that is making my run increasingly muddy, does anyone know if they are poisonous to chickens??

They grow so quickly I wouldn't plant them inside the run, the roots will find the moisture so outside is fine.  I read on google, someone put cuttings on the muddy end of the run and had no problem.

Someone with more experience than me will be along soon to give you good advice

My neighbour had huge leylandii that created a boarder to the field my hens range in. They never had any problems scratching around in the shade of the trees. However I understand that wild birds often like to roost in leylandii and leave red mite in them. I have had red mites consistently over a number of years but since the leylandii trees were felled the problem (seems) to have gone but cannot be 100% certain.
