All onions can be eaten at any stage of growth really, but I guess spring onions will be ready when they are a little thicker than a pencil......

Potatoes will depend on what type - Salad, First Earlies, Second Earlies, or Maincrop.....

Carrots, again can be picked at any stage after they start to swell, and you can just keep an eye on the top of the carrot and foilage.

Radishes are a quick crop, and again just keep an eye on the size of the root, but dont leave them too long, or they may become woody.....

Lettuce, depends on the variety
When weeding, the best way to know if its a weed and not a valuable plant is to pull it.

If it comes out easy, it was a valuable plant !

If you think of a spring onion with the bulb planted this is exactly what they look like, I know that sounds daft but it's so true. I mean the stem thickness if that makes sense.

Radish I am useless with

Spuds when the foliage dies down I take mine as and when I need them.

Carrots I have never had much success with to date but this year I have done them in a blue water butt and they look good. I will just pull an odd one every now and again if I think they are ready to check.
