My shed is falling down
« on: October 12, 2009, 12:29 »
I have a shed.  It was here when we moved in, and before that it was in my neighbours garden.  It is 21 years old and mostly ok but also a little rotted.  Some of the supporting posts on the inside, some of the outisde, some of the base and rotted through and crumbling and wood is missing.  it is all on the one side.

Do I need a new shed or can I replace the rotten parts.  I have access to pallets, and can't afford a new shed.  Also, I need felt for the roof.  Where can I get this free or cheap?

Thanks

Pallets will do you fine. I use decking screws instead of nails because hammering might be the end of the whole shed. I'm looking for roofing felt myself - skips and freecycle mainly.
Skips are also a good source of roofing timber which is often quite hefty and useful for shed strengthening. Look for loft conversions near your plot - always ask but most people are only too pleased to get rid of the stuff.
Self-sufficient in rasberries and bindweed. Slug pellets can be handy.

Actually, it doesn't matter.

I was at my father in-laws today, and noticed a new shed lying in his garden.  I asked him where he got it, and he told me he was given it when the old guy next door died, but that he was never going to get round to building it.

I can have it if I transport it.

Its 8' by 6', and the sides, back, etc are built - it just needs constructing.

It cost £400 and is 2 years old and ways a tonne.

But I might get it and still see if I can repair the old one... haha.
