We've just got a new allotment next to ours, it's was overgrown but we have over the last few weeks cleared and dug it.
My query is should I cover the plot with manure and dig it in the spring or as I have seen a few wireworms shall I lime this now so that it clears them ready for spring planting?

I've not heard about using lime to prevent wireworms.  I'd concentrate on the manure if there's nothing you want to grow overwinter.

Just make sure the manure is well rotted.

You can trap your wireworms by burying chunks of potato speared onto short canes or sticks.  The sticks mark where the traps are.

Did them up weekly and dispose of the potato chunks and resident wireworms.

I also think the potatos traps are the best option for the wire worm.

You could start moving manure onto a corner of the plot at least that way you have less distance to move it later on.

Id also get what you've dug covered because theres nothing more disheartening than finding it full of weeds in a months time. If you don't have any plastic or membrane then manure will be fine.
