Hello everyone,

I'm in the process of designing my own henhouse to suit 4 large layers.

Can anyone advise me on:-

1)  where I can obtain a decent set of plans to base my design on?
2)  is tanalised timber 'poultry friendly' and suitable for this purpose?
3)  if not, what is a suitable wood preservative?

Did Diggit ever come up with a costing for that house? I can't find it.

Thanks to you all for the replies and advice given, especially for the link to the potential henhouse design by 'Diggit'. I found his design and the practical advice given very interesting, the lengthy comments of 'hillfooter' in particular.
I had decided to build my henhouse from t+g with an 'onduline' roof, 2 externally accessed nest boxes and enough roost space for my planned 4 birds (but with enough room for another 2 if required).
I will adjust my design to take on all the great practical advice when I've decided on it's final location! I will of course post some pics on here of it's progress as I build it.
With regards to building one for 'Jinty', well let's see how mine turns out!
