Hi, i'm new to this site and just wanted to say hello!
I have just had to restock entirely after my friend's dog killed all my hens (bar one)and my beautiful young brahma cockerel !!
fingers crossed that the surviving hen makes it - now renamed Lucky - she seems to be getting stronger every day and more bolshy when i attend to her so i'm assuming this is a good sign.
Yesterday i bought 3 young hens (about 8 weeks old) - a plymouth rock, a light sussex and a rhode island red, and i was given 2 point of lay warrens and 3 birds that my father in law hatched from eggs that he was given to put under a broody hen. One of them is a cockerel which he thinks is a blue fenton but i can't find a decent pic of one so i,m not sure. one of the girls looks similar to him, and the other he thinks is a speckeldy but i think it looks more like a bluebell as it has black legs. Again, i can't find any decent pics, so if anyone has pics of blubells or fentons i would be very grateful to see them

there seesm to be loads of great information and advice on this site, keep up the good work! :)

Ouch, what an awful thing to happen to your flock. Did your friend recompense you? Good luck with lucky!

I hope you have a 'luckier' time with your new hens and pictures ARE the law!

Hi Ceri and welcome.

Certainly not a nice experience for you. I hope Lucky proves to live up to her name. :D

As FCG says, you do have to post photos or you'll be forever pestered.

Weatherwax - beautiful chook.  :)

thanks weatherwax for the pics, mabel is a stunner!

my girl hasn't got a comb or wattles yet but otherwise looks similar, as i said i will try and put some pics up soon

regarding the ??blue fentons?? - the girl apparently is a cross between a bantam and a proper chicken
and the cockerel- to -be will be chicken sized....i think....but how big is a blue fenton? He is at the moment mainly black on his back with the odd dark green sheened feather, has black legs and a red comb and wattles. His bum is still quite fluffy and dark grey.

if it ever stops raining i will take some pics!!!
