Not if there is a hosepipe ban at your local water authority. Do you know which one supplies your water?

I think that is one with a hosepipe ban. You can use a watering can filled from a tap. :)

Yes, I'm Thames Water and there's definitely a ban. I filled my water butts with a hosepipe before the ban started :)

I filled my 3 new slimline water butts in the garden last night after building a brick stand for them, managed to squeak in just before the ban. I didnt buy them until gone 6pm - when the wife decided to panic. at least now we can collect rainwater off the conservatory.

That is difficult for us to answer without knowing how much of what you are growing and how much water you have got stored.

yes you are allowed to fill watering cans from outdoor taps when there is a hosepipe ban on.

I think you need to enter into the spirit of the ban otherwise you may find if there is no rain this summer Ie one like 76 then there will be standpipes in the street . The rules are full of holes ie put a gold fish into a water butt and it becomes a pond , however during the last ban there were no court cases . yes you can fill a watercan from an outside tap but not from  a hose pipe

I'm all for saving water and have fixed up a water butt on the greenhouse, its me pond i will need to top up in the summer, the good news is the out side tap is fairly close to my pond.
Thanks for all the help, roll on summer as it's like winter here...

I wonder.. if you have an outside tap and plenty of guttering, could you do away with a hosepipe, and would it be legal?
