Yes it should fire at least,a squirt of carb cleaner should work as an easy start fluid

With all the fuel lines connected easy start does not make any difference, but disconnet the fuel lines from the fuel tank and the strimmer start after about 4 pulls?????

Maybe I have the lines from the fuel tank messed up, or the ones on the carb??

I am really confused!!

yes I have taken off the pipes from the carb, I'm guessing that the pipe from the tank should go to the inlet on the carb that has the diaphragm inside?

Strange how it will not start with start fluid when all the pipes are on??

My particular carb is the WT299.

Many thanks

Does the carb have a breather system? It sounds like the fuel system is either over pressurising, or that the metering diaphragm is faulty, or that there is some reason that the fuel shut off needle is not seating correctly.
Often small two strokes (the better types) rely on a breather system on the fuel tank. If this becomes blocked the system over pressurises and forces fuel past the needle valve and into the engine. This makes the engine flood within a few pulls of rthe rope. It is quite a common problem. Also, if the metering diaphrgm is faulty, it can alow the needle valve to permit fuel to flow past the shut off needle, flooding the engine.

Yes I beleive there is a breather whole but I think that's for the vacumn??  Small hole on the side plate.

With regards to an over preasurised tank, how would this be fixed?  Could I test this by trying to start with the fuel cap off?

If the fuel lines needed replacing could this effect the starting?

Thanks
Andy

when I get it to start with easy start it can run for a short while but as soon as the throttle is open it makes a low sound before stopping, it is as it it cannot pick up fuel.  When it does stop the fuel system makes a sucking/air escaping sound for a while, it's like the fuel is struggling to get around?  Is there something on the tank that be doing this?

Very close now to increasing the pile to go to the tip!

just as a wild stab in the dark, have you checked the exhaust side of things? if the exhaust port is blocked by carbon, it can give some of the symptoms you describe.

I would check your fuel pipes, when I got my strimmer the fuel lines were rotten and gummed together and letting virtually no fuel through, replaced them and the engine started fine, now its dead because the previous owner didnt grease the gearbox on the strimmer head, when I took  it to bits the bearings dropped out in many pieces.

Hi, I'm pretty sure the tubes are the correct way round, I've tested the configuration with new tubes and it does pump the right way.  I can't test right now, but will report back later.  Many thanks for vid.
