Worm/grub
« on: March 10, 2009, 16:44 »
I wonder if anybody can help identify a worm or grub which is found under the soil on our plot.  It is grey in colour,  :happy:usually curled up but when lifted stretches like a garden worm.  Have spent hours trying to identify so any help would be greatly appreciated because I don't honestly know whether it causes damage or is safe to leave in the ground.  Thanks.

Is it soft-bodied like a worm and does it have a 'saddle' like a worm?

Just found this but unfortunately not available yet for IDing worms. :(

LINK

You could try trawling through a few worm-type websites until you see a match. There's a lot of wildlife out there !

If you can get a photo of it, you can try emailing it to the Natural History Museum.

I did this with a bee we found and they sent back an ID a couple of days later.
