Newspaper seed starting pots!
« on: March 31, 2008, 18:06 »
Hey everyone, I found this tutorial online for making newspaper seed-starters, thought I'd post it on here for those (like me) who have difficulty remembering how to do it from one year to the next....

http://www.geocities.com/newspaperpots/

Also - this is probably gonna sound like a daft question, but do experienced gardeners find it makes any diff. which newspaper they use to make the pots? I remember reading once that some newspaper inks are more acidic than others and I wondered whether it would make any diff where seed-starting was concerned?
So everybody's entitled to opinions, I open up my mouth, and s***, I've got millions! - Lady Sovereign

Aye, they're pretty easy once you get the hang of it! I've got loads of them sitting in one of those shallow ikea plastic packing boxes now  I'm gonna make a bunch more of them while I watch Curb Your Enthusiasm ready for putting the seeds in tomorrow  :D

If you look in the "useful topics and sites" sticky thread (just above this post) you will see the link to the pot thread. I suppose I could have linked to it but I'm too lazy  :D

Just made 30 today in less than 10 minutes. Used a third of a newspaper and bits of sellotape.

Mine are bulging with tomatoes as we speak. Thanks Richy
Self-sufficient in rasberries and bindweed. Slug pellets can be handy.

OH makes ours, but he doesn't use any tape as we're going to plant them out in the pots and I don't think the tape would break down, would it?

Those origami newspaper pots are holding together alright for me - I put them in a seedtray to keep them together. I've done a few hundred - mainly for peas so far.

The round pots are OK, but I like square better.
