I have a hen who has lost her feather all around the tops of her legs and the end of her back before her tail, it happened back in the winter and has not grown back anyone know why.  Also , her eggs always have a rough shell, my other hens all have lovely smooth ones.

Hi Shazzer!  I didn't want to you go without an answer, but you've certaily puzzled me, I've never known a chook not to grow its feathers back, and after all this time too!!!

one of our silkies lost her undercarriage feathers months ago when she first tried going broody. Since then they havent grown back - she has been on and off broody for a couple of days at a time between laying since then. Now she is proper broody hopefully she may get back to normal after she has had her babies?? Maybe similar thing??? Other than that I don't know. No mites/lice involved are there?? Thats the only other thing i can think of

I read in an old poultry magazine a couple of weeks ago that rough eggs can be either diet OR an old hen.  One of my rescue hens laid rough shelled eggs for a while, but since I fed her up and gave some TLC she has filled out and is laying GREAT eggs.  She was riddled with worms when I first had her, so could have been part of the problem.  Sorry nothing to add to the others re: feather loss.
