Pea Seeds
« on: March 28, 2009, 22:56 »
About 10 days ago I put 20 pea seeds in small pots in a heated propagator.. As of today only 2 had sprouted so when I checked the seeds they had turned to mush.

Do we have any pea experts please?

cheers

Peas dont need heat, the mistake you made was a heated propagator, Im surprised you had two germinate!

Sow them direct in mid-april or start off now without heat in Richys paper pots or guttering ready to plant direct. Cold frame will work right now but theres no need to baby them, they are up and quick in warmer weather

Completely agree with peapod.  My peas are just poking through in my unheated greenhouse and most have germinated.  I'll harden them off and put them out in about a week.  Like my broad beans I will just let them get on with it.

I've had peas turn to mush in the past. Only about one in every thirty peas, so not a big deal, but at least you're not alone.

Maybe they were mushy pea seeds  :D
