winter veg?

Having harvested most of my fruit and summer veg any suggestions on what to plant for winter? I have leeks in and onions. Want to continue planting and eating as much as poss.

As we don't seem to have as much cold weather pre-Crimbo, I sowed some swede a month ago. Give some a go and you could try beetroot at a push or buy some plants; there may be some winter cabbages about too. Don't sow or plant too much and have some protection handy. If it doesn't work - at least you've tried!

I sowed beetroot, salad leaves and mizuna on Monday - every line of stuff has started to germinate!

Get going and shove stuff in - you'll never know if you don't...

There is a new winter little gem lettuce, I have been told by a neighbour that it is very good so I am going to give it a try. Love salads so lettuce in winter sounds good.

I put a few rows of carrots in the other day. A bit late according to the packets but on my small veg patch at home that I have been used before getting the allotemnt I would always plant them about now and would always have a decent crop later in the winter.

I'v just started some purple top turnips and they are going great,did them about this time last year and they gave us a good crop upto Christmas and they taste great roasted or in stews.

May be a bit late for seeds but I bought 20 purple sprouting and 20 Savoy cabbage plants in a local nursery this week. Cost is still negligible compared with costs if most grow and you've saved about 6 weeks. Good luck!
