Hi. only started growing my own veg last year. Can anyone advise me please? i planted potatos in tubs last year and they all died.(potato blight i think) i'm going to try again in the ground this year but we live on quite sandy ground. i've got a nice pile of well rotted bird droppings from the wild bird table can i use these in the bottom of the furrow? i thought i read that you should not use bird manure on root veg. thank you. :)

Welcome to the forums.

I see no problem in using the bird droppings, but as spuds are a very hungry feeder, they may be a drop, (see what I did there?) in the ocean and you may want to consider more fertilizer.

Potatoes are not a root crop. Unlike parsnips and carrots, the bit that is eaten is a tuber, not the root.
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

Your spuds are going to be hard to overfeed - as DD says you will need to add more stuff if you think your ground is going to be low on nutrients. The bird poo will give some nitrogen but spuds also need potash - some tom feed will help or comfrey leaves and comfrey tea.
