Is this scab
« on: July 12, 2014, 20:55 »
These are international kidney spuds that I dug up this morning.
Does anyone know what is wrong with them and how I could have prevented it? I have eaten some which looked healthy and they were delicious. If I peel these will they be ok to eat?

The photos are rather small, but it looks like it.

Scab only detracts from the appearance and the spuds are OK to eat. Alkaine soils encourage it.
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

I tried to make it so that the photo opens up when you click on it but just got 2 pictures. I limed all my plot except the spud bed. They have been fed with comfrey and grow more. I have seen scab before and the scabs were brown but the worse affected  of these ones have white blisters

Ah - white blisters - now don't laugh, that could be swollen lenticles, usually caused by over watering. Again unsightly but not dangerous.

You may be right, we have been on holiday and a neighbour watered my plot for me. He loves to water with a hose. The stuff in the PT is very wet, I suspect he over watered my spuds too, but they were not very wet this morning.
