Hello All

FE have common scab anything I can do to avoid this next year - spuds taste great my book advised no problems eating them I've just been peeling them as it looks unsightly

Scab is very common here and a potato expert I spoke to said there's really nothing you can do about them aside from regularly rotating potato areas (4-5 year rotations are best) and using certified seed spuds. As you say, it's not overly pretty but there's nothing wrong with the insides. We never eat the peels ourselves so aren't bothered.

dont add chicken pellets when u plant or afterwards as this causes more scab, u could try a resistant variety like wilja.

Thanks for the replies - I did put pellets in the trench so I will avoid this next time I've got some pigeon muck rotting away nicely I will use this on next years patch when I do my autum diggining

Just had a look at the scab pic and UK scab is far worse than ours.
