I have just got back from homebase and found a cheap way of getting compost / soil of all types. bark the lot.

I got got some potting compost to start with, but there were many other types. It was 3 for £10.00 (50lts), then reduced £3.00 per bag but the bags were damaged, cut open etc (with not much lost) and were been sold off for  £2.00 a bag. I had a roll of duct tape in the can so went back got it and taped up the bags in the store and then paid.

Its a good idea to check the bigger store B+Q etc to see if they do the same and take either tape or bags.

it's amazing what you can get becuase the box is damaged. We got a  greenhouse (flat packed of course) from B&Q for £50 a couple of weeks ago. It was down to £90 and I asked if this was the sale price, as it seemed a bit much (as if!) and I got it for 50.

Moral- Those that don't ask don't get!
