2 of my egs are missing !
« on: January 17, 2007, 09:37 »
I have 3 Warren hens - they are 2 years old and live with my old rabbit, have gone on egg strike since November.
At best I get one large egg a day - usually every other day on average. Previously had 3 eggs per day - They were moulting a bit before Christmas.
I don't know if it is one hen laying or the 3 taking it in turns !
Following advice I have given them Oestra today........... Hopefully this will do the trick. ???
Cherie always says:
"A boiled egg in the morning is hard to beat, but then what does she know about anything".

Hens often go off lay during the winter because of the short dark days.  They should start laying when the lighter days come along  :D

Whilst 2 hens have set up home in a new coop, Hen no 3 refuses to join them, prefering sit out in the cold, or if she can moves in with the rabbit in his refurbished hutch. Hen no 3 is the egg layer - egg on earth or in rabbit hutch.
I was given Hen 3 a bit later than the other 2 - possibly she is younger - about 18 months ago. Could they still not be friends ?

I keep putting Hen 3 in with others, but she will noyt lay there, and I may just leave her to live in sin with the rabbit.

Did you shut her in the house with the others for 24 hours first?

All my hens came from the same place but were kept in different runs and could not see each other.  I put them in the hen house for a little over 24 hours with food and water, now they all now where home is.
