One of my girls has gone missing
« on: September 13, 2008, 19:48 »
What a day, I let the girls out this morning and within an hour one of my sussex chickens had gone awol.  We have only had them a day and against my better judgement I let them out with the other 2 as they followed them out of the coop this morning.  I have looked everywhere, does anyone have any suggestions? or do you think the worst has happened and I have lost her?  Im gutted.

Chickyroo

Oh dear :( She's probably laying low somewhere....they are very good at hiding. Fingers crossed she comes back tomorrow. In the meantime I wold go out with a torch and search every nook and cranny of your garden.

I will do that, and there are alot of nooks to look in!  I feel so stupid and cross with myself for letting them out, they just looked so happy to be out eating the plants

Don't knock yourself...I've done it myself, .....nothing better than seeing them root around! ;)

Chckyroo - I know this sounds silly but have you checked in the coop - one of mine flew over their run fence to go to bed as it was getting dark and I was convinced she had just gone!

Good luck, fingers crossed.

If her wings aren't clipped she may be roosting in a tree.

Mine were accidentally locked out of their run and coop one evening and it took me a while before I remembered they were out, so I went back to the lotty, torch in hand, and searched for them.

I was just about to give up and declare them lost when I saw something in the long grass;  it was 2 of the warrens!  They had roosted there for the night and just like kids who fall asleep in the car, I picked them up to take them to the roost and they just dozed and let me put them to bed - didn't care at all!

At least it's not light really early so if she's up a tree hiding she won't come down till 6:30/7 ish

Will keep my fingers crossed she's waiting for her corn in the morning :)
