make fat-free beetroot crisps by slicing thinly and dehydrating - works with courgette and parsnip too :D

oh and you can store it in damp sand .. dont let the sand freeze tho  :wink:

I used to bake under foil but now I microwave as it`s faster but like baking you loose no juice or taste and they`re easy to peel the skin from.

I loved pickled beetroot for years but interestingly enough had never tried it unpickled....that was until i grew some one year with the intention of pickling it.  After i'd boiled and skinned 'em i sliced for a taste....wow much better.  Don't touch the pickled stuff now! Just boil and slice it...hot or cold....yummy.

Definitely worth growing.

I have a food dehydrator with lots of shelves. Slice about 1/4" thick, spread on the trays, and dehydrate til crisp (around a day, depending on moisture content and thickness of cut). Slice courgette crisps a little thicker as they shrink down more :D

Our beetroot didnt do any thing last year but then apart from the tomatoes and cucumber nothing grew very well mind you the pigeons and rabbits got a feed eating what ever come through  but we only got the allotment in june and it was full of weeds, nettles, brambles etc. so we only cleared a small part so were pleased with what we acheived
