Had a good day yesterday. Ive now dug over about half the plot in 2 days but a bit achy today so having a day off!!!

Tidies around the rasberrry canes as bits of grass growing etc and tidied up the remains of last years rhubarb.

Need to sort the fence (annual job as it comes down each year!) This year it was because a neighbouring plot put black plastic down but didnt secure it well enough so it trampled down my fence and sprouts.  >:(

Those metal spikes with the small u turn at the top help with fence repairs, I've found

(The ones builders use to hold up that orange plastic holey stuff for temporary fences)

Discovered that rain water had been getting in to my tub of chicken manure pellets.  Decided to spread the resulting soup about a bit.  My god did it stink, I can still smell it now :(
Toiling through 100sq metres of clay - And I don't actually eat much veg!

Gavin what's the pressure like with those water butts when using a hose? Obviously better when full but are they strong enough to fit a hose attachment say?

Hi WavetreeRed - no pressure really. It's just for storage and as my plot is on a slope I'll use a hose to get the water to the veg as required and do a bit of leave the hose there for a while flood irrigation type of watering..

Ended up goin to the plot late as Mr Sunny was engrossed in watching tennis on TV

But still managed to:

- get the bean trench dug (3.5m long, 50 cm deep) and emptied this week's kitchen waste in and covered it well with soil.

- set up a bench in the mini tunnel where I can keep the broad beans in their pots, as soon as they are hardened off

- clear the bed where the first early potatoes will go, and covered it with black plastic to help warm it up, and stop it getting waterlogged now

- dug some parsnips and beetroot for dinner

and at 5:00 pm it was still light  :D :D :D

Cut down some dead branches from trees.

T shirt weather .

Saturday: Went to the potato fair and bought 50-off spuds (lots and lots of varieties) and a few asparagus plants.

Sunday: Weeded around the cabbage and the onions/garlic beds, cleared some sorry looking lettuce from the poly tunnel, and dug some tree roots out from along the fence where the comfrey will go...
