Been putting up the posts and wires to train the blackberries on.
Also made a start by erecting the posts for the fan for the gage.

Cut down the autumn raspberries
Pruned back the vigorous bits of the pear cordon.

A pleasant day albeit a bit cool in the wind.

Love it!

I weeded the asparagus bed, taking out two buckets of grass tufts and other nonsense like that

Made sure there were no more dandelions in the bark paths --- missed a few tiny ones and they had gotten quite big. Out with them!

Chatted to a plot neighbour about which chillis we plan to grow this year, until suddenly it was cold and so came home quickly

I went down today to treat the outside wood work and tidy up a bit, but first thing was fire up the stove for a cuppa :).

Barnsley Bill that really is the bees knees! We'll all be round for a cuppa (and bring our own mugs and bickies)

A quick visit early doors to the allotment just to get some leeks and also came back with  some spring onions.
Then tackled the slowly collapsing grape vine and its supports at home.
Gave the vine a damn good haircut, something it has been in need of for quite a while. Got rid of a lot of older wood and crossing wood.
Then made a start putting wires for support in between the wooden uprights since the original bamboo framework had given up the ghost.
 :)

A few things done at the plot today... Got some of the greenhouse foundations sorted... I'm using concrete fence posts laid on top of a layer of blocks to raise it up 12" or so..

Then I made 2 runner bean climbing frames 8' high and 8' wide.. should get a good crop growing on those..

Also collected and spread 12 bags of horse manure that is given free to the site on occasions..

I have no neighbours to worry about so I had a dirty great bonfire of old fencing, branches of two trees I took out last year and two years of apple, soft fruit and rose prunings. A ten ft high pile, thanks to a liberal application of newspaper soaked in white spirit, was reduced over the course of the day to it's present neat pile of wood-ash to go round the fruit trees (and some extra CO2 into the atmosphere)

Barnsley Bill your shed and stove is brilliant  8)

I pruned the gooseberries today and cut down the Autumn Bliss raspberries.  Found 4 self rooted cuttings where branches had touched the ground when pruning the gooseberries. 2 of Invicta and 2 of Hinnonmaki Green which were snaffled up by fellow plot holders.

Started digging the ground over where the old knackered blackcurrants had been dug out.  Was really too wet and I should have known better, so feeling it now  ::)

Cleared and dug over another 10' by 8' bed today. I really hate couch grass and silver birch roots I have decided! Another one of those, and three 10' by 4' beds and I'll be ready for the new season; although these last four beds will involve some landscaping and levelling due to my slope. Once those are done I can dig out the kid's bed, but that doesn't have to be ready until May when it will house a rose bush, a couple of Sunflowers and a giant pumpkin apparently! Still it will be about 16' by 4' so maybe.....
