My order from More Veg arrived and I also picked up a few packs of seed in Poundland.

I've been munching my way through a lovely box of biscuits, only because I need the tin to store my seeds of course! :D

I chose mostly seeds with AGMs and some F1s in the hope of getting a decent crop. This year it's not just a hobby, we're hoping it'll help save us some money.

Monday- filled 4 bags with brambles growing in the 'compost heap'!

Today - Re-designed shed plans to construct an ark instead. :D

Don't know when it will be dry enough to get some digging done. >:(

Still drawing  and re-drawing diagrams of what will go where when we can eventually get going......

Cake lady.... Sorry - layered is the wrong interpretation of the word..  I just put a layer on top of the ground about 2" thick. Will dig it in in the Spring..

Cleared distruction after last night/this mornings gale.It was worse here then it was the last gale we had. There wasn't any damage the last time but this morning half of the big old bullace tree that was at the far end of the garden has split in half where it forked from the main trunk with a split down the trunk too.I'll have to cut it down to about 2 foot and hope it sprouts back.I'll really miss it as it was full of blossom in spring and tens of pounds of fruit each year.Feels like i've lost an old friend :(

A trellis with an evergreen clematis on it also snapped and one of my plastic greenhouses is in bits.

Cheered myself up this evening by looking through seed catalogues

I bought one of those cheap polytunnels off ebay,(4.5m x 2m) anticipating bad weather at some point in time ,I secured it firmly with soil, bricks metal posts at each leg reinforced joints and home made guy ropes.

Amazingly after all the gale force winds we"ve had it"s still standing!

Unfortunately some of the reinforced cover has ripped in several places, but it's still there.

I'll have to do some repairs, and it looks like some of the joints have been weakened(not surprisingly) overall not bad for 40quid

Started to spread the contents of one of the compost bays onto the beds but got rained off. Annoyed to find that all the "rotten" potatoes that were interred in it last autumn are now well rooted

Mr Sunny has had to take off our debis netting windbreak from the fence because an intruder broke the straining wire when they climbed over it and the whole thing has been left swiinging on the wind, between our plot and our neighbour's.

Took ages, but it is now folded up in the shed and the fence is as propped as it can be.

Dirty great footprints gave the intruder away... they opened the mini tunnel, and lotso of other shed doors but not ours, so I went round closing shed doors

Not really on the plot, but in the garden at home:

Pricked out my onions from trays into cells, built my bargain half price wood and polycarbonate growhouse and attached it to the decking against a south facing fence, and put up a tool rack and some shelving brackets in the shed.

My plot is a bit too wet to get going yet - fairly heavy clay based soil so trying to work it when it is sodden is back breaking and does more harm than good anyway  ::)

So yesterday, I set to on the raised beds at home.  Asparagus cut down and mulched.  Strawberries tidied up and mulched and seakale mulched and buckets put over the crowns ready for blanching. Kale stripped of manky older leaves and weeded and parsley cut back, as is growing like a weed in this mild winter we have had down in the south so far.

All neat and tidy so maybe the greenhouse gets tackled today  :)

finally got to the plots today after about 5 weeks, what with the weather, my MIL's trips to hospital, my mothers Broken hip on the 23rd december and being made redundant, its been difficult to get there, arrived to find the gates open, finding a car with a balaclava wearing driver - ooh er I thought - but it turned out to be the site manager inspecting the damage from vandals last night. Still luckily only minor damage on my plot, my net cage had the corner posts kicked over, so no real harm, compared to smashed greenhouses and sheds round the rest of the site. Picked some broccoli - its still throwing out sprouts. then to the other site where the leaking stopcock is still leaking, extended the stream a few feet further, at this rate I will have a top notch irrigation system soon. more broccoli some kale and even a few straggly beetroot, and my  hour and a bit for visiting the plot today were up so home I came- hospital visiting later. Good to see the garlic just starting to sprout, and the rest of my overwinter crops surviving well.
